Increase uTorrent download speed by tweaking uTorrent Setting
Optimized uTorrent can give you maximum download speed. You can follow the steps below:
- From “Options” tab select “Preferences”.
- From “Bandwidth” Tab select the below options:
- From Global upload rate limiting set Maximum Upload Rate: 100 kB/s
- From Global download rate limiting set Maximum Download Rate: 0 (0 means unlimited)
- From Number of connections set Global Maximum number of connections : 2330
- Maximum number of connected peers per torrent: 250
- Number of upload slots per torrent : 14
- Press Apply and finally press OK.
Here is the conclusion of what we did in the last steps. We actually limited our torrent upload limit (Seeding). We have also set unlimited download speed by setting 0 in the download limit option (Don’t be confused here, 0 doesn’t mean you will get zero speed).
Increase uTorrent speed from Advanced tab configuration
You can adjust two more parameters in the Advanced tab and increase uTorrent download speed.
- Click on Options–> Preferences –> Advanced.
- Click on “bt.connect_speed” and set value “80”, press “Set” . Don’t close the tab yet. We have to change one more value.
- Now in the Filter field paste this text “net.max_halfopen” , you will see the options appears below, click on it and change the value from 500 to 100. Then press set.
- Now press OKto save the settings.

Increase uTorrent download speed by adjusting queueing options
From Options –> Preferences Select Queueing. All you have to do is set the value Maximum number of active torrents (upload or download) to 1.
Increase uTorrent download speed by allocating more bandwidth ( utorrent bandwidth settings )
If you are downloading multiple torrent files at once then you can give highest bandwidth priority to the torrent file that you want to download faster. To allocate more bandwidth you have to right click on the torrent file, then select Bandwidth allocation >> Set HIGH to give it more priority than others.
Add all torrent trackers to get even more speed
When you add a Torrent file or a Magnet link to your uTorrent software it will stick to the originating tracker site only. But uTorrent has this awesome feature that lets you add a list of torrent tracker sites at once. This has many advantages and one of it is that you will get more seeders and peers combined with your pre-existing tracker. In a nutshell, your torrent download speed will be increased.
To add torrent tracker sites to your torrent follow the below steps. First Double click on the torrent file and paste the below trackers in the General tab under Trackers field:

Speed Up Torrent Downloads by Connecting Directly to the Seeds
Often your computer’s firewall will slow down torrent download by inspecting all torrent data. To disable this feature you need to make sure that “Enable PnP port mapping” is enabled. Although this option is enabled by default. If you haven’t changed it, you will find it enabled.
To make sure this option is turned on go to OPTIONS , from there select PREFERENCES and then click on Connection. Just make sure PnP port mapping has tick on it.

The settings that we have shown here can also be optimized automatically. Newer version of uTorrent has this feature called “Setup Guide“. This will first detect your download and upload speed and suggest you an optimum setting. You can then set those settings in one click. The reason we haven’t put this on beginning of this post is that, we have tested / tweaked all uTorrent settings and made one Universal setting that worked well with numerous tests that we have conducted. So the steps we have discussed above are 100% working. Now, coming to the uTorrent’s own optimization, well, uTorrent won’t tell you to limit your upload speed because this will make uTorrent protocol obsolete because if there is limited number of high speed uploader then the download speed for that particular torrent file will be much slower.
Here are the steps to configure uTorrent Setup guide
- At first, you will need to know your Upload speed. To check your upload speed go to any speed testing sites like Google’s speed check and run three speed test and note down the upload speed. Now make an average of the upload speed. We will set this value in the next step.
- Open uTorrent and From Options –> Select “Setup Guide“
- In the new windows, select a server (Japan or Singapur) and then select the upload speed in the next field, Now click on “Run test“.
- Give some time and uTorrent will generate a report. You will get the optimum bandwidth configuration setting. Now click on “Save and Close“

I dont know, but seriously these steps worked. Recently due to virus issue I had to format my gaming laptop and again those long process for game downloads. I was downloading Fifa 19 and Far Cry new dawn at the same time, and it was giving 450-550 KB/S speed. After all those steps it got reduced to 1.2 KB/S and I got tensed. But within a minute!!! It got increased to 1.5 MP/S – 2.2 MB/S 😀 😀 …. Thanks mate….
One major suggestion was not to limit upload speed at 1 KBPS and not be that greedy. I increased it to 10 and more KBPS and its really working. Download gets much faster!!!

Do not follow this guide there is so many errors in it. For one you should not add trackers due to DHT it could actually slow it down instead of speeding it up. And limit to 100 upload? Why would I limit my upload to 1%?

The value 100 KBps for upload is not merely a magic number. I have tested it several times with many torrent files and then put it here.
As per your suggestion I installed Tixati and it had also proved my point. Check the screenshot
The Auto Limit option that controls upload speed is disabled. If I enable it, the download speed goes down. I am using 20 Mbps line and still upload speed is showing 100 KBps without any limit from my side. But as I said in my previous comments above if you read it, I said to put the upload value half of your bandwidth line if say you have 1 Gbps line. This is good for both torrent environment and the user.
by doing these tweak my internet download speed increased up to 500kbps from 1.3 mbps to 1.8 mbps. tnx a lot

All of the tuning is great and necessary but unless other torrent clients can connect with you the upload speed will always be sluggish. I’ve been struggling for some time to improve my upload speed. Did all of the tuning recommendations and finally realised the port on my VPN was no longer being forwarded to my torrent client. It’s all about connectivity. Once I got my port working the upload speed is now awesome.
